The prompt that makes ChatGPT and Claude 10x better

One prompt, run in both ChatGPT and Claude, to generate your own custom instructions and get answers ten times more useful. Copy, compare, paste into the settings.

Most people use ChatGPT and Claude with the factory settings. They ask a question, get a correct but generic answer, and conclude the AI is "decent, nothing more." The problem is almost never the model. It is that the AI knows nothing about you: not your way of thinking, not your tone, not the level of detail you expect.

The gap between an average AI and an AI that gets you is not about the model, it is about what you tell it about yourself.

Good news: you do not have to write those instructions yourself. The AI writes them for you, from everything it has already learned across your conversations. You run one prompt, you get an instruction block, you paste it into the settings, and every answer after that is calibrated for you. Five minutes, once, and it changes everything.

What you need
1
A ChatGPT account and a Claude account. The free tiers are enough.
2
A conversation history. The more you have already talked to each AI (memory on), the sharper the result.
3
Five minutes. This is a setup, not a project.

Copy the prompt

📋 paste as is

Here is the prompt. Copy it without changing anything.

Based on everything you know about me: my way of communicating, my values, my way of thinking, design a set of system prompts that I can give to ChatGPT/Claude so it communicates with me more effectively.

Provide this in three forms:

1. A ready-to-paste instruction block (formatted to be inserted into a system prompt or a settings field).
2. A short example of how an AI would typically respond to me without these instructions.
3. The same example rewritten to show how it would respond with these instructions in place.

Do not make any changes. Just generate the result, which must be 1500 characters maximum. Make sure to count so you do not exceed 1500.
Why 1500 characters
ChatGPT's custom instructions field is capped at 1500 characters. The prompt forces the AI to stay within that limit: the block it generates has to fit into the settings as is, without being truncated.
2

Run it in ChatGPT and in Claude

same prompt, twice

Paste the prompt into a new ChatGPT conversation. Then the exact same one into a new Claude conversation.

You get two versions of your custom instructions, one per AI. They will not be identical: each model interprets what it knows about you differently, and that is exactly what we want to use.

Tip
Make sure memory is on in ChatGPT (Settings, Personalization, Memory). With no history, the AI has nothing to build on and the result stays generic.

Compare and keep the best answer

🎯 your gut decides

Read the two blocks side by side. Do not look for the longest or the most impressive one. Look for the one that sounds the most like you: the tone, the priorities, the way it describes you. You are the best judge.

🗣️
The tone
Direct or nuanced, concise or detailed: does it match how you actually communicate?
🎯
The priorities
Does the block surface what matters to you (action, rigor, creativity)?
🔁
The proof
The "before / after" example shows you the gain concretely. If it is obvious, the block is good.
4

Paste into both AIs' settings

⚙️ once in each

Now you activate. You can paste the best block into both AIs, or use each AI's own generated version in its own settings. Both work.

🟢In ChatGPT
4
Settings, then Personalization, then Custom instructions.
5
Paste your block into the field. Stay under 1500 characters.
6
Save. It is live immediately, on all your next conversations.
🟣In Claude
7
Settings, then your personal preferences (the instructions field Claude factors into every answer).
8
Paste your block, save.
The result
From now on, both AIs answer in your tone, at your level of demand, without you having to remind them every message. Same model, response quality on another level.

Refine over time

Your instructions are not set in stone. After a few weeks, run the prompt again: your history has grown, the AI knows you better, the block gets even sharper. You can also edit it by hand whenever you spot a habit you want to fix.

The principle fits in one sentence: an AI configured for you pays off on every answer, not just one.
