Claude Code: 51 video effects you add with one command, no editing software

A free skill adds 51 effects to your talking-head videos: a giant word behind you, a glass graph, a checklist, a comment that types itself. Install it in one sentence, then use every command, sorted by what it does for your video.

You drop your video into Claude Code, then type /effects and the name of an effect. Claude tracks your face, places the effect at the right moment and hands you the finished video, without opening any editing software.

It all comes from an open source skill, claude-video-effects by Vibha Ramprakash: 51 effects, free, MIT licensed. This guide gives you the install, the six effects from the video, then all 51 commands sorted by what they do for your video. Details taken from the repository on November 4, 2026.

51
effects, one command each
1 sentence
to paste to install it
1 to 3 min
of setup on the first run
✅What you need
1
Claude Code, on a paid plan. In the terminal or the app.
2
A vertical video with you in frame. Shot on your phone, facing the camera: that's the format that works best.
3
ffmpeg and Python 3.10 or later. Claude installs them if they're missing. On a Mac it uses Homebrew: if you don't have it, Claude will ask you to install it first.

Install the skill

📦 ~/.claude/skills/effects
💬The easy way: paste this sentence into Claude Code
Install the skill from github.com/Vibha-Ramprakash/claude-video-effects into ~/.claude/skills/effects
⌨️Or in your terminal
git clone https://github.com/Vibha-Ramprakash/claude-video-effects ~/.claude/skills/effects
🔁Then
4
Restart Claude Code. The skill is available the next time it starts. On Windows, the folder becomes $HOME\.claude\skills\effects.
5
Let Claude set up the rest. On your first effect, it creates its Python environment, which takes 1 to 3 minutes. It doesn't do this again.
Where your video runs
Rendering happens on your computer, with ffmpeg. The skill's three scripts contain no web addresses. The only downloads are the Python libraries and, if you time an effect to a word, the transcription model. Claude looks at a few frames to check the framing.
2

Run your first effect

🎬 /effects command
▶️Drop your video into the chat, then type the effect and the moment
/effects orbit from 3 to 6 seconds
/effects backdrop-word when I say "Claude", with the word CLAUDE
/effects comment-box at the end, typing EFFECTS
🧩Or chain several effects in one request
Add locked-on from 6 to 10 seconds, then orbit from 10 to 13 seconds, then reject-stamp on the word "no".
🔍What Claude does next
6
It finds the right moment. Say it in plain words, "when I say Claude": it transcribes your video and finds the exact second.
7
It checks a few frames. It fixes anything that covers your face before it renders.
8
It puts the video next to your original. The file ends in _effects.mp4, your audio stays as it was, in 1080p by default. Ask for 4K if you want it, it's slower.
9
You correct it in plain words. "The word covers my face", "it's too fast": it fixes the plan and renders again.
The right dose
Aim for 1.5 to 4 seconds per effect. Short windows look best.

What the skill doesn't do

⚠️ read this before you post
🧾The limits
10
These are starter versions. The result doesn't replace a hand-tuned edit, with timing worked out frame by frame.
11
It adds visuals, nothing else. No sound, no captions: add those afterwards, for example in CapCut.
12
You stay in control. Watch the video before you post. Anything that could cover your face goes behind your head, but you make the call.

Where to start

Take a video you've already shot. Add backdrop-word on the key word of your first sentence, then comment-box at the end with your own keyword. Two effects are enough to see if the style suits you.

The claude-video-effects repository also has a preview image of most effects, so you can pick before you render anything.
