Founder Mode: the 6 Claude prompts to copy and paste

Turn on Founder Mode in Claude once, then copy and paste the 6 prompts that make it reason like a seasoned founder: strategy, competition, decisions, revenue, hiring.

Most people use Claude as a polite assistant: it nods, it hedges, it hands you generic advice. Founder Mode flips that: you force Claude to reason like an operator who has built and sold companies, not like an intern trying to please you.

The idea is two steps. You paste an activation prompt once into your settings, and from then on every business conversation starts with that frame. Then you pick from 5 ready-made prompts depending on what you need to fix: pressure-test your model, attack a competitor, settle a decision, find hidden revenue, hire without messing up.

It is all below, ready to copy and paste. I keep it plain as we go.

What you need
1
A Claude account. The mode works on any version, even the free one.
2
Two minutes. The time it takes to paste the activation prompt once.
3
Custom Instructions. This is where Claude keeps a permanent frame that applies to every conversation. We go there next.
The principle

One activation prompt, set once. Then 5 use prompts you reuse forever. The frame stays the same, only the question changes.

1

Turn on Founder Mode

📍 Settings → Custom Instructions

This is the step that changes everything. Custom Instructions are permanent directions Claude applies to every conversation, without you re-pasting them. You put the activation prompt there once, and the mode is on everywhere.

⚙️Install the mode, step by step
4
Open your settings. In Claude, go to your profile settings, Custom Instructions section.
5
Paste the activation prompt below into the field.
6
Save. From now on, every conversation starts in Founder Mode.

The activation prompt to paste:

You are now in Founder Mode. Reason like an operator who has built and
sold companies. For every problem, no generic advice: give me the exact
decision a seasoned founder would make, with the trade-offs and the risks.
Start every response with "Here's what I'd actually do."
Tip

If you do not want it on permanently, paste this prompt at the start of one specific conversation. It will hold for that exchange.

2

Stress test your business

📍 prompt 01

When to use it: before you launch, raise, or when you sense your model has a flaw you cannot name. Most people pitch to friends, who approve everything. This prompt does the opposite.

Turn on Founder Mode. I'm building: [describe your business in 2 sentences].
Stress test my model like a Series A investor who has seen 500 pitches.
Tell me what breaks first, what I'm not seeing, and what the top 3% of
founders in my market do differently. Be blunt, don't protect my feelings.
What you get

The answer will make you uncomfortable. That is exactly the point: you fix on paper what would have cost you in real life.

3

Find the gap to own

📍 prompt 02

When to use it: when a competitor dominates your market and you are looking for the angle where you can win. Every leader has a blind spot. Your job is to find it and own it.

Turn on Founder Mode. My main competitor is [name them]. Map their
weaknesses, blind spots, and the positioning I can own right now. Give me
3 moves that make them irrelevant to my target customer within 12 months,
ranked by speed of execution.
What you get

You are not trying to beat them on their turf. You are trying to make them irrelevant on yours.

4

Kill the spiral

📍 prompt 03

When to use it: when you have been going in circles on a decision for days. This prompt swaps 3 days of overthinking for 10 minutes of framing.

Turn on Founder Mode. I need to decide: [describe the decision].
Run it through: 1. what breaks if I'm wrong, 2. what I'm really optimizing
for vs. what I want, 3. what a founder who already made this mistake would
tell me. Don't tell me what I want to hear.
What you get

Three sharp angles instead of an endless loop. You make the call and move.

5

Find the hidden money

📍 prompt 04

When to use it: when your numbers stall and you think you need to reinvent everything. Often the revenue is already there, you just have not seen it yet.

Turn on Founder Mode. Here's my current offer: [describe it]. Find the
revenue I'm leaving on the table. Give me 3 monetization angles I haven't
tried, ranked by effort-to-return ratio. Flag which one to test first and
how to test it in 2 weeks without rebuilding anything.
What you get

Same audience, same product, new angle. One of the 3 will surprise you.

6

Hire without messing up

📍 prompt 05

When to use it: before your first key hire. A bad first choice does not just cost a salary, it slows the whole company for months.

Turn on Founder Mode. I'm about to hire my first [role]. Give me 5
interview questions that separate A-players from people who just interview
well. Then give me the one red flag most founders don't catch until month 3,
and how to spot it in the first 30 minutes.
What you get

A bad hire takes 3 months to undo. These questions save you from most of them.

Where to start

Paste the activation prompt into your Custom Instructions first. That is what unlocks the other 5. Then grab the prompt that fits your day: a doubt about your model, a competitor that keeps you up at night, a decision that drags. Swap the brackets for your situation, and let Claude answer the way a founder who has already won, and already lost, would.

Founder Mode does not make you smarter. It gives you better thinking, faster. That is exactly what separates the people who move from the people who ruminate.
